Alabama Roots: Top 10 in NFL touches

Alabama Roots: Top 10 in NFL touches

For the third season in a row, a former Alabama running back led the NFL in touches in 2022.

While running up the most rushing yards in the NFL last season, Josh Jacobs had 393 touches for the Las Vegas Raiders – 340 rushing attempts and 53 receptions.

In 2021, Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris led the NFL in touches as a rookie with 381 – 307 rushing attempts and 74 receptions.

In 2020, Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry led the NFL in touches with 397 – 378 rushing attempts and 19 receptions.

Henry’s 2020 total is the most in one season for a player from an Alabama high school and college, with Jacobs moving into second place in 2022. Henry surpassed the 1983 workload of 390 touches for Atlanta Falcons running back William Andrews for the Alabama-roots record.

Henry’s workhorse duty for the Titans over the past five seasons has drawn him into range to overtake the career leader for NFL touches among players from Alabama high schools and colleges. Henry has risen to sixth on the Alabama-roots list and trails Shaun Alexander by 525 touches entering the 2023 NFL season.
