Auburn man allegedly impersonated police, threatened to ‘put a bullet’ in woman to keep her quiet

An Auburn man has been arrested amid allegations he was posing as a police officer and threatened to “put a bullet” in the brain of a woman who knew what he was doing.

Justin Gregory Johnson, 36, is charged with impersonating a police officer and making a terrorist threat. He is being held in the Lee County Jail on bonds totaling $103,000.

The investigation began in September when the Lee County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a possible police impersonation case with terroristic threats.

Investigators contacted the female victim who told them she was communicating with a man pretending to be a law enforcement officer.

He told her, she said, that he was going to put a bullet in her brain if she told anyone about it.

Investigators obtained a video clip of the person – now identified as Johnson – showing the victim a tactical vest with a plate carrier and a Lee County Sheriff’s Office patch attached when he made the threats.

They also located social media posts that showed Johnson wearing the vest and shooting a semi-automatic rifle that had some type of suppression device attached to the barrel.

Law enforcement officers carried out a search warrant at Johnson’s home in the 10000 block of U.S. 280 West in Auburn.

During the search they recovered the tactical vest with the Lee County Sheriff’s patch, several semi-automatic rifles equipped with suppression devices and a cell phone used by Johnson.

Additional charges are expected, officials said.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-STOP (7867).
