16-year-old girl shot in vehicle in north Alabama

A 16-year-old girl was wounded during an altercation on Wednesday afternoon in Fort Payne.

Police Chief David Davis said the incident happened at approximately 2:46 p.m. in the area of 16th Street Northwest and Gault Avenue North.

Officers responding to a shots fired call determined that two vehicles were involved in the incident.

Officers located two vehicles that were suspected as having been involved in an altercation.

A 16-year-old girl, who was a passenger in the one of the vehicles, was taken to a hospital by family members. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening injuries, Davis said.

There have been no arrests in connection with the incident. However, five people – from Lithonia, Ga., Gadsden and Fort Payne – were arrested on assorted drug charges as a result of the investigation.

Davis said the shooting is believed to be an isolated incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Fort Payne police investigations.
