Ex-Alabama corrections officer accused of giving contraband to federal inmates arrested

A former Alabama corrections officer was arrested by U.S. Marshals and Montgomery police Tuesday for allegedly conspiring to deliver contraband to federal inmates housed at the Montgomery County jail, officials said.

Timothy Bernard Summerlin, a 33-year-old former corrections officer for the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, allegedly was involved in the conspiracy to deliver the prohibited items since February 2033, according to the U.S. Marshals Service.

Summerlin, who was a corrections officers for 3 1/2 years, was arrested in the parking lot of the Walmart on Chantilly Parkway in Montgomery on Tuesday.

“Corrections officers are held to a high standard of integrity, trust, and honor. This investigation has spanned over approximately seven months by my office and we are not done yet. There will be more indictments coming very soon,” said M. Dante Gordon, chief deputy for the U.S. Marshals’ Montgomery office.

Summerlin was taken to the Montgomery federal courthouse and charged with conspiracy to provide contraband to an inmate in prison and bribery of a public official.
