Mobile jail inmate found dead in his cell; second death in less than 3 weeks

An inmate at the Mobile Metro Jail was found dead in his cell last Saturday, three days shy of his 31st birthday.

The death was the second at the Mobile jail in less than three weeks.

According to the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, corrections officers at the Mobile Metro Jail found Terrell Markuise Moultrie unresponsive in his cell Saturday. The county’s Major Crimes Detectives unit responded to the scene, finding no evidence of foul play or trauma.

The death continues to be investigated as the sheriff’s office awaits results from a toxicology report.

Moultrie had been in jail since June 5, charged with four counts of domestic violence and three counts of theft of property. He also had a hold placed on him for the U.S. Marshals, according to the jail docket.

On June 26, the sheriff’s office reported 38-year-old Ernest James Little Jr. was found unresponsive by his cellmates. Corrections officers administered Narcan, an over-the-counter treatment for opioid overdose, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.
