Police investigating fire started to cover up double homicide in Phenix City
Police in Phenix City are investigating a double homicide that the suspect attempted to cover up by setting a house on fire early Wednesday morning, authorities said Monday.
Phenix City officers responded to a home Pine Lane on a call of a structure fire, said Central Alabama CrimeStoppers, which is offering a $2,500 reward for information leading to the suspect’s identity.
Investigators later found two victims dead inside the home.
The investigation into the fire became an arson probe “and it appears both victims were victims of a double homicide prior to the fire,” according to Central Alabama CrimeStoppers.
Authorities believe the fire was started to coverup the killings, the organization said.
Witnesses spotted a black truck owned by one of the dead victims and a white SUV leave the scene before the fire.
The circumstances surrounding the incidents remained under investigation as of Monday, and no other details were released.
Anyone with information on the double homicide was asked to call police or CrimeStoppers at 334-215-STOP(7867) or 1-833-AL1-STOP(251-7867) or download the organization’s P3 tips app.
