Man tried drowning Alabama relative before driving through grocery store: Police
A domestic violence suspect is being held in an east Alabama jail on attempted murder charges after authorities say he broke into a female relative’s home and tried to drown her before driving his vehicle through a grocery store wall.
Rainbow City police officers received a call of a domestic violence incident on Royal Troon Drive around 9:44 p.m. June 5 in which the suspect fled the scene, the department said Friday.
Officers at the scene learned the suspect, later identified as 24-year-old Ryan Tyler Watts, allegedly tried to break into a family member’s home and tried to drown her.
Rainbow City police were then notified by the Attalla Police Department that they located Watts and his vehicle at Johnson’s Giant Foods in Attalla.
“It appeared that the suspect drove his vehicle through the wall of the grocery store and was still in the vehicle when Attalla Police Department arrived on scene,” Rainbow City police said.
Warrants for attempted murder were obtained on Watts on June 6, who had been hospitalized in the incident.
After Watts was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody on Friday and booked into the Etowah County jail, where he is being held on $100,000 bond.
Warrants for attempted murder were obtained on Watts on June 6th, 2023. Watts was taking into custody on July 14th, 2023, and into the Etowah County Detention Center after being released from the hospital. Watts is being held on a $100,000 cash bond.
