South Alabama adds former San Diego State punter/holder

South Alabama has added former San Diego State punter and holder David Delgado to its roster for 2023, a source confirmed to AL.com.

Delgado, a San Diego native, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He announced his commitment to the Jaguars via Twitter over the weekend:

Delgado (5-foot-10, 165 pounds) did not attempt an extra point, field goal or punt in his four years at San Diego State, but was the Aztecs’ primary holder last season and is expected to compete for that role at South Alabama. He redshirted in 2019, appeared in one game in 2021 and 13 in 2022 (he did not play in a game in 2020, but received an additional year of eligibility due to COVID).

Delgado joins a South Alabama punting competition that will also include former Alabama transfer Jack Martin and true freshman Aleksi Pulkkinen, a native of Finland. Four-year starter Jack Brooks (who was also the Jaguars’ primary holder on field goals and extra points) announced last week he will not return for a fifth season of eligibility.

Delgado is the 12th Division I transfer to join the South Alabama program since the end of the 2022 season. Here is the complete list:
