Birmingham stocks see moderate gains

A handful of stocks with Birmingham-area interests had good days Monday with moderate gains.

Community Health Systems — the Franklin, Tennessee-based company with six locations in Alabama from Huntsville to Birmingham to Dothan — led the pack with a 3.4% gain.

Nucor and Spire both saw a 1.4% bump.

Up 1.2% were a pair of Birmingham-based companies: Medical Properties Trust, the real estate investment trust that focuses on health care facilities, and Encompass Health Corp., the nation’s largest system of rehabilitation hospitals.

Lesser gains were made by Vulcan Materials (.9%) and Regions (.7%).

Overall, stocks ticked higher on Wall Street Monday ahead of a week with updates on where inflation and corporate profits are heading.
