What to know about Alabama football’s 2023 SEC Media Days player attendees

Alabama football announced Monday it will bring Dallas Turner, Kool-Aid McKinstry and JC Latham as its player representatives at SEC Media Days next week in Nashville. The Crimson Tide players will be speaking July 19, along with head coach Nick Saban.

With a week to go before the start of media days on July 17, here’s what to know about the players Alabama is putting on the podiums.

Dallas Turner

Turner, a linebacker from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., figures to play a huge role for Alabama’s defense this season. Turner is the Crimson Tide’s lone returning starter at linebacker and will be a factor in the Tide’s attempts to replace Will Anderson’s production.

The junior played in all 13 of Alabama’s games last season, starting in 10. He had four sacks, along with 37 tackles, eight of them for loss.

After making his way to Tuscaloosa from St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale, where he was a five-star prospect, Turner received freshman all-American honors. He finished 2021 with 8.5 sacks and 30 tackles.

Kool-Aid McKinstry

One of the most memorable names in college football, McKinstry is also one of its best defensive backs. He was a first-team All-American according to Pro Football Focus last season, and earned second-team honors from the AFCA and third-team from the Associated Press.

The junior also returned punts for the Tide in 2022, ranking second in Division I with 332 yards that way. He was voted all-SEC as both a corner and punt returner.

The Pinson Valley product finished last season with an interception, along with 29 solo tackles and 16 pass breakups. In 2021, McKinstry also picked off one pass on his way to second-team freshman all-SEC honors

JC Latham

Latham took over Alabama’s starting right tackle spot last season. He immediately made an impact, finishing the season with 29 knockdown blocks.

The Oak Creek, Wis. native joined the Tide from IMG Academy in Florida. He was the nation’s top-ranked offensive line recruit in the class of 2021 and chose Alabama over LSU, Notre Dame, LSU and Wisconsin.

Latham played in 15 games as a freshman for Alabama. He came in and saw major playing time in the College Football Playoff semifinal against Cincinnati, helping power the tide to 301 rushing yards in the win.
