21-year-old sought in Fultondale shooting that injured his 4-year-old sister
The older brother of a 4-year-old girl shot in Fultondale earlier this week has been charged in connection with the incident.
Fultondale police are searching for 21-year-old Jaylon Lewis. He is charged with second-degree assault and unlawful possession of marijuana.
Police officials said the girl was shot “due to the reckless actions” of her brother.
Police and fire medics were dispatched shortly after 12:30 p.m. Wednesday to Chapel Creek Apartments on a report of a child shot.
Police Chief Marcel Walker said when officers arrived, the little girl’s mother was applying pressure to the child’s leg wound. The bullet had gone in and out of the girl’s leg.
The child was taken to Children’s of Alabama. Walker said her injuries weren’t life-threatening.
The mother told police the girl was in a room and accidentally shot herself, Walker said.
Three people were at the home when police arrived. A fourth – Lewis – had left before officers got on the scene, the chief said.
Officers found marijuana in the room Lewis shared with his little sister.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to all Fultondale police at 205-849-5456.
