Can you capture that perfect photo of one of Alabamaâs largest cities?
The call is simple: In Alabama’s 10 largest cities, send us your best photo.
The challenge is maybe less simple: Capture a photo in one of Alabama’s 10 largest cities that will resonate across the state. Is there a unique angle to capture the magnitude of Montgomery’s history? Or a perspective to blend one of Birmingham’s downtown parks with the city’s skyscrapers?
Or, maybe most obvious of all, a photo that epitomizes the passion of “War Eagle” in Auburn or “Roll Tide” in Tuscaloosa?
From Dothan to Decatur, from Mobile to Madison, the Alabama Big 10 Mayors want to see what you see through your camera. The Big 10 Mayors – the leaders of the state’s 10 largest cities – have announced a statewide photo competition that will “allow Alabamians living in and around Alabama’s 10 biggest cities to submit photos of their respective cities.”
The winner will receive statewide recognition as well as a $500 Visa gift card.
The competition started this week and will conclude Sept. 4.
The cities that make up the Big 10 Mayors organization: Auburn, Birmingham, Decatur, Dothan, Hoover, Huntsville, Madison, Mobile, Montgomery, and Tuscaloosa.
“From the mountains of the Tennessee Valley to the Alabama Gulf Coast and everything in between, our state – and our state’s cities – are some of the most individually unique as any in the country,” the Alabama Big 10 Mayors said in a statement announcing the competition. “Whether it’s history, culture, architecture, entertainment, or natural beauty, Alabama’s ten biggest cities have something to offer for everyone.
“The unique character of each of Alabama’s largest cities is important and worth showcasing. We want to give each of these cities’ residents the opportunity to show their city pride and share their city’s beauty through the lens of a camera. We urge all Big 10 residents with an artistic eye for the camera to snap some photos of their city and submit it for this competition and give your city a chance to win this contest.”
Participants must submit photos via direct message to the Alabama Big 10 Mayors’ Facebook page. The photos will shared on social media and the photo that receives the most likes will be declared the winner.
