Vestavia Hills man, Alabaster woman ID’d as pair killed in horrific July 4 crash

Authorities have released the names of a man and a woman killed in a horrific crash in Alabaster on the Fourth of July.

Shelby County Coroner Lina Evans identified the fatality victims as Philip Town, 34, of Vestavia Hills, and Megan Talentino, 36, of Alabaster.

Alabaster police Chief Curtis Rigney said officers about 7:15 p.m. Tuesday received 911 calls of a reckless driver traveling at a high rate of speed on Smokey Road, which is also known as County Road 12.

At 7:20 p.m., the chief said, they received another call of a car on fire in the 2100 block of Smokey Road.

When officers arrived, they found the car engulfed in flames in a wooded area.

One of the occupants- Town – had been ejected. Police pulled him away from the burning vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Alabaster firefighters extinguished the blaze. Talentino was then found dead inside the car.

Rigney said the vehicle was believed to be traveling at least 100 mph when it left the roadway and hit the trees.

The investigation is ongoing.
