After lengthy pursuit, Texas man charged in Decatur robbery

After a lengthy pursuit involving several north Alabama law enforcement agencies, a Texas man has been arrested and charged with first-degree robbery, Decatur police said.

Arrested was Jeffrey Lyndon Gladden of Aledo, Texas, police said. He is being held in Morgan County Jail without bond.

Gladden was captured Sunday night after about a 39-minute pursuit, Decatur police said. Agencies involved in the pursuit were Falkville and Hartselle police as well as Morgan County sheriff’s office.

The incident began when Decatur police responded to the Texaco Express on Sixth Avenue in reference to a robbery. The suspect fled in a white Jeep Wrangler as police arrived and a detailed description of the vehicle was broadcast to local law enforcement.

The vehicle was observed by police going southbound on U.S. 31 about 10:47 p.m. and after a traffic stop was initiated, the suspect fled and the pursuit began. The vehicle was stopped about 11:26 p.m. and the suspect was taken into custody.

The clerk at the gas station told police the suspect demanded gas and threatened to use “an object capable of causing serious physical injury.” The clerk provided the gas to the suspect.

Additional charges are expected to be brought by the pursuing agencies, Decatur police said.
