Gene Wojciechowski latest out at ESPN: ‘No Plan B yet’

It appears Gene Wojciechowski was among those let go by ESPN last week.

Despite not being being mentioned in reports about bein released from ESPN, Wojciechowski tweeted Monday that he is no longer with the company since June 30.

“June 30 was my last day at ESPN,” Wojciechowski wrote. “I’m indebted to every editor, producer, director, crew member, researcher, and colleague during that 25 1/2-year run. Grateful to all those who let us parachute into their lives and trust us with their stories. No Plan B yet. For now, just thanks.”

ESPN fired a number of on-air personalities last week.

The cuts are part of the plan by The Walt Disney Co. to lay off thousands of employees – including ESPN as part of a previously announced plan to eliminate 7,000 jobs this year.

The job cuts include entertainment, ESPN, parks, experiences and products. The company previously said that it doesn’t expect the job cuts to impact hourly frontline operations roles at its parks and resorts.

Disney CEO Bob Iger had announced in February that the company was going to cut about 7,000 jobs as part of an ambitious companywide cost-savings plan and “strategic reorganization.” The job cuts amount to about 3% of the entertainment giant’s global workforce.

As you might imagine, Wojciechowski’s tweet was met with immediate reaction.
