Suspect charged in domestic slaying of woman found fatally shot on Birmingham sidewalk
The suspect in the Friday-night killing of a woman in Birmingham has been formally charged in her death.
Edward Bell Myles Jr., 51, is charged with murder in the shooting death of 50-year-old Sherry Lynette Body.
West Precinct officers were dispatched at 11:43 p.m. Friday to the 600 block of 11th Court West on a report of a person shot. That location is off Arkadelphia Road.
When officers got on the scene, said Sgt. LaQuitta Wade, they found Body unresponsive on the sidewalk in front of a house. Birmingham Fire and Rescue pronounced her dead.
Wade said it appears that an altercation took place between Body and Myles. “Moments later,’’ she said, “people in the area heard a shot being fired and called 911.”
Wade said the deadly shooting was domestic in nature.
Myles was taken into custody early Saturday and was held in the Birmingham City Jail pending formal charges. He was undergoing booking Sunday afternoon in the Jefferson County Jail where he will be held without bond.
Body is the city’s 65th homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and five others have been ruled justifiable and therefore are not deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County there have been 96 homicides including the 65 in Birmingham.
