The family of Elizabeth Minter, the Pelham police officer who was struck by a speeding vehicle over the weekend, has set up a fundraiser to assist with her recovery.

Minter’s family created a GoFundMe page with a goal of $50,000. As of Sunday afternoon, the fund had $31,619 and 567 donations. The Pelham Police Department is also accepting donations to go toward the officer’s recovery.

According to the police department, Minter was directing traffic around a crash at Mile Marker 242 on Interstate 65 southbound shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 1, when she was “knocked out of her boots” by a speeding vehicle.

Police Chief Brent Sugg said the driver of the vehicle had ignored traffic control vests and emergency lights and was going about 80 miles per hour when he hit Minter.

The driver was taken into custody shortly after the crash, though details about charges were still pending an investigation by the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.

Minter had multiple injuries but was stable, officials said over the weekend.

“Officer Minter is stable this morning. She still doesn’t remember what happened,” Sugg told AL.com Sunday. “She is resting and is being kept comfortable until she undergoes surgery in the days ahead. We ask that the community continues to pray for her as she recovers.”

Community members also can support Minter through a contribution to the Pelham Police Auxiliary, department officials said. Checks should be made to the “Pelham Police Auxiliary” with “Officer Minter” in the ‘for’ line. Checks can be dropped off in person or mailed to the Pelham Police Department located at 32 Philip Davis Street, Pelham, Alabama, 35124.

“One hundred percent of the donations to the Pelham Police Auxiliary will go to Officer Minter to help with medical and other expenses while she is out of work,” an official wrote on the department’s website.
