Sylacauga man killed in early-morning shooting
An early-morning shooting in Sylacauga left one man dead.
Sylacauga police were dispatched at 1 a.m. Sunday on a shooting call at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Scrooge Alley, in the old Avondale Mill Village.
Police Chief Kelley Johnson said when officers arrived, they found 19-year-old Jason Anthony Swain Jr. had been wounded, and bystanders were trying to help him.
Swain was taken by ambulance to Coosa Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Johnson said no arrests have been made. Sylacauga investigators and members of the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force are looking for a suspect and trying to determine a motive.
