Level 2 risk for severe weather in Alabama on Saturday

Level 2 risk for severe weather in Alabama on Saturday

Alabama could see another round of strong to severe storms on Saturday, according to forecasters.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 2 out of 5 risk for north Alabama today and a Level 1 risk for central Alabama.

A Level 2 risk means that scattered severe storms will be possible. A Level 1 risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.

The strongest storms could have damaging straight-line winds, hail and heavy rain. The tornado risk is low.

Strong storms will also be possible in south Alabama, but there is no severe weather risk for that region.

Storms will be most likely this afternoon and into the evening hours, although the National Weather Service cautioned that the timing was uncertain.

Forecasters will again be watching to the north of Alabama, where storm clusters could form and track southward toward the state. There were two of those on Friday — one slid down Alabama’s eastern border with Georgia during the day, and more storms dropped into north Alabama later that night from Tennessee.

Today won’t be the only chance for severe weather. The Storm Prediction Center has also added in Level 1 risks for storms on both Sunday and Monday.

Here is Sunday’s outlook:

The northern half of Alabama will have a Level 1 risk for severe weather on Sunday.

Here is the outlook for Monday:

Monday severe outlook

Isolated severe storms will be possible in north and central Alabama on Monday.

Damaging winds and hail will again be the main concerns. The tornado threat again will be on the low side.

Rain chances will persist into next week as well, according to forecasters. As of Saturday morning, however, the SPC hasn’t put Alabama in a severe weather risk after Monday, but that could change.
