Starbucks in downtown Huntsville gets green light despite traffic concerns
The Huntsville Planning Commission gave final approval for the development of a downtown Starbucks despite concerns about potential traffic problems.
The Starbucks at Constellation will be built on land south of Clinton Avenue and west of Heart of Huntsville Drive near Memorial Parkway that city planners call the “Gateway to Downtown.”
Planning commission member Kelly Schrimsher continued to voice concerns about the access points for the development which is near the ramp coming off of Memorial Parkway and onto Clinton Avenue.
There will be no access off Clinton and Schrimsher feels the access points on Heart of Huntsville Drive are at too narrow of a distance. There are three lots being created and a common area, according to Director of Planning Services Thomas Nunez.
“There are two points on ingress-egress through the common area that also gives access to lots one, two and three,” he said.
“We were on the record, or at least I was, having real concerns about the dual entrances, not the queuing for Starbucks,” Schrimsher said. “All of that can be managed. But just hopefully when we get to that point in laying out the subdivision, give that a hard and fast look. That’s adding a third ingress-egress off that sweeping turn off Clinton and on to Heart of Huntsville.”
