61-year-old man charged with robbing Mobile bank
Mobile police have apprehended a 61-year-old man they say robbed a downtown bank Thursday morning.
Officers responded to a report of a robbery at Trustmark Bank on Dauphin Street about 10:55 a.m. Bank personnel told police a male suspect entered the bank and demanded money from the teller, who handed over an undisclosed amount of cash.
The suspect took the money and fled in a vehicle. He was apprehended a few hours later near the 7000 block of Moffett Road.
A release from the Mobile Police Department said the stolen money and a gun were recovered, but did not indicate whether the gun had been brandished during the robbery.
The suspect was identified as Lawrence Peterson, who has been charged with 1st-degree robbery. He was transported to Mobile Metro Jail about 3:45 p.m. Thursday.
