Birmingham stocks see positive bump on flat day in markets
The majority of stocks on our list saw negative numbers Wednesday but some companies with Birmingham interests managed to avoid the drop.
Birmingham-based Encompass Health, the nation’s largest system of rehabilitation hospitals, gained .7%.
Community Health Systems rose .5%. Nucor and Vulcan Materials each gained a modest .2%.
The big winners, though, were Louisiana-Pacific and The Weyerhaeuser Company, both up 4.3%.
Weyerhaeuser, a timberland company, has manufactured wood products for more than a century and operates as a real estate investment trust. According to its website, it has three locations in Alabama: a lumber mill in Millport, a timberlands office in Thomasville and a plant in Evergreen. Staff reports
