A classic Men’s College World Series served as the bookend to the 2022-23 college sports calendar.

With that final set of data, the Learfield Director’s Cup standings are complete as the overall success of athletic departments is ranked. Beginning in 1993, the award is designed to reward departments that are successful in a wide range of sports.

Stanford topped the 2022-23 standings with 1,412 points as the SEC claimed four of the top 10 places. Florida led the league with 1,091.50 points to place fifth followed by Tennessee’s 1,078.75 for sixth.

Alabama was No. 12 with 1,037.75 points while Auburn was No. 36 with 657.50.

For the Crimson Tide, this year’s performance was a 10-place improvement over the 22nd-place finish last year. It was No. 7 the year before that.

Auburn was 32nd a year ago and 50th the year before that.

Zooming out, all 14 of the SEC schools ranked within the top 60. Mississippi State had the lowest total at No. 57, one spot ahead of Vanderbilt.

Looking at other major conferences, the ACC had a range of No. 4 Virginia-No. 105 Boston College. The Big 12 went from No. 2 Texas to No. 92 Kansas State. The Big Ten went from No. 3 Ohio State to No. 130 Rutgers. And the Pac-12 ranged from No. 1 Stanford to No. 166 Washington State.

Eight teams tied for last place (298th) with 5.0 points apiece.
