Mobile authorities investigating how a police vehicle was stolen

Mobile police are undergoing an administrative investigation into how a police vehicle was stolen Sunday.

The incident occurred at 1251 Virginia Street after an officer had inadvertently left a spare key inside the vehicle, according to Mobile Police Cpl. Katrina Frazier.

Danielle Leon, 34, was arrested on North Catherine Street while still inside the vehicle. She did not physically possess the key to it, but was able to use the push-start function to start the vehicle, Frazier said.

Mobile police declined to say what kind of police vehicle was stolen, and whether the vehicle was marked.

Apart from taking money from the car, no other items were stolen and no damage occurred to the vehicle, Frazier added.

Leon was arrested and charged with theft of property.
