Man drowns after falling out of boat near Guntersville, body recovered

Multiple agencies assisted in the recovery of a drowning victim at around 4:30 p.m. Sunday near Guntersville.

According to Marshall County Coroner Cody Nugent, the man recovered was around 50-years-old. However, the victim’s name will not be released until the family is notified.

The incident occurred in the Honeycomb area off U.S. Highway 431 near Guntersville Marina and Erwin Marine Sales where a search was initiated at around 10 a.m that same day.

Divers and volunteers with the Guntersville and Union rescue squads, Hebron Volunteer Fire Department, Guntersville Fire Department and Alabama Law Enforcement Agency all assisted in the victim’s recovery.

Around six boats were in the water dragging the bottom during the recovery process.

According to reports by the Sand Mountain Reporter, the victim was initially in a motor-less boat with his brother before falling in the water.

He was reportedly wearing a life jacket, but it came off once he fell in. The depth was estimated to be 10-15 meters deep.

The brother attempted to rescue the victim before calling first responders, but was unsuccessful.
