Bank of America is planning on opening a Birmingham financial center next year.

In addition, the financial institution is planning on five locations in the Birmingham area by the end of 2026, as well as one in Huntsville.

In a news release today, Bank of America announced it will begin a multiyear retail banking expansion across nine markets and four new states, including Nebraska, Wisconsin and Louisiana: Through this expansion, the company will now operate financial centers in more than 200 markets across 39 states.

“By expanding our capabilities in these markets, we are able to better serve clients, and help drive local community growth and development,” Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan said in a statement.

Earlier this month, Aaron Levine, the company’s president of preferred banking, mentioned Birmingham along with New Orleans, Milwaukee, Madison, Wisc., and Boise, Idaho, at an industry conference as avenues for expansion.

Bank of America is the nation’s second-largest bank by assets. It does not have an Alabama branch, but has more than 75 branches in Georgia, the closest being in Columbus, according to its website.

Bank of America is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., with investment banking and auxiliary headquarters in New York City.
