Reckon + Them event to reimagine trans futures in an increasingly dangerous world

From Reckon and Condé Nast’s them, we are excited to announce a live panel event titled “From Breaking News to Broken Narratives: Reimagining Trans Futures in a Dangerous World” takes place Thursday, June 29, at 5 p.m. ET.

Join us to hear about the reality of trans legislative coverage by visiting our Eventbrite page to sign up for free.

Moderated by Denny, Reckon’s LGBTQ community’s reporter and lead writer of the Queerverse newsletter, the discussion will feature an all-star team of queer and trans mediamakers who will share their insights and experiences on queer-led storytelling.

As we bring Pride month to a close, Reckon is elated to highlight mediamakers leading in the way towards shifting media towards a future that tells more dynamic stories about the lives of LGBTQ+ communities.

The surge in anti-trans legislation, the cultural rise of dissent towards queer folks speaks to the atmosphere of heightened vulnerability for LGBTQ+ folks, who already face disproportionate rates of violence, discrimination, and social exclusion. To counter harmful stereotypes and misinformation, amplify diverse LGBTQ voices, share accurate information, and expose biased reporting, the panel will discuss how journalists can reshape media for trans liberation.

The panel features James Factora (he/they), staff writer at them; Erin Reed (she/her), independent journalist tracking anti-LGBTQ+ legislation around the world; Muna Mire (they/them), writer, producer and creative director and one of the architects of NYT open letter speaking against anti-trans coverage; and Eva Reign (she/her), an actress and journalist.
