Alabama baseball signee Kade Snell wins national award
Alabama baseball signee Kade Snell of Wallace Dothan was named Monday as NJCAA Division I position player of the year by Rawlings Sports and the American Baseball Coaches Association.
Snell, a graduate of Wicksburg High School, is the first Alabama community college player to win the award in its 23-year history. The left-hander was a two-way standout for the Governors in 2023, batting .393 with 13 home runs and 70 RBIs as a designated hitter/outfielder and also posting a 10-0 record with a 1.86 ERA and 86 strikeouts on the mound.
Snell was previously named NJCAA All-South District Player of the Year and Alabama Community College Conference Pitcher of the Year, and was the Alabama Sports Writers Association’s Community College Athlete of the Year. He began his college career at Auburn in 2021, but did not see any game action before transferring to Wallace.
Central Arizona’s Matt Wilkinson was chosen as NJCAA Division I Pitcher of the Year. The ABCA/Rawlings chose players and pitchers of the year in all three NCAA and NJCAA levels, the NAIA and high school.
