Quinerly plans to enter transfer portal, report says

Big news is developing for Alabama basketball on what would seem like a quiet Sunday in a low-traffic time of year.

Jahvon Quinerly, a veteran point guard and former McDonald’s All-American, plans to enter the transfer portal, on3.com is reporting. Quinerly arrived in 2019, had to sit out a season after transferring from Villanova and then played the last three seasons with the Crimson Tide.

After testing the NBA draft waters, Quinerly opted to return to college for a final season and it appears that will come at the third school of his collegiate career.

Quinerly came off the bench in all but five games last year after starting 27 of 33 games in the 2021-22 season. He missed the beginning of this past season recovering from a torn ACL that ended the previous year in the NCAA tournament. A valuable sixth man, Quinerly’s scoring average dipped out of the double digits for the first time in Tuscaloosa by scoring 8.8 a game. Minutes also dropped to 21.2 last year with a deep and talented roster after peaking at 30.0 a game the previous season.

Turnovers were occasionally an issue for Quinerly but he improved there in his last season. His assist-to-turnover ratio went from 137:98 to 120:68 last year.

This post will be updated if more details emerge.
