Authorities are on the scene of a shooting that left a man dead, and a child injured.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. on Wisdom Way in Jefferson County, near the Blount County line.

Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said the child has been taken to Children’s of Alabama. The relationship between the male victim and the child wasn’t immediately known.

Few details were immediately available, but said a suspect is in custody.
