Huntsville area receives $130 million in higher ed money. Hereâs how it will be spent
Huntsville area universities and colleges are receiving more than $130 million in supplemental appropriations from the Education Trust Fund through the 2023 legislative session.
Of that, about $100 million will be going to projects at the Alabama Robotics Technology Park, the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Alabama A&M and Calhoun Community College.
The Robotics Technology Park on U.S. 31 in Tanner will receive $30 million for an electronic vehicle workforce training center.
State Sen. Arthur Orr, R-Decatur, who serves as chairman of the finance and taxation education committee, said the center will assist the Mazda Toyota Manufacturing facility as it begins production of electronic vehicles.
The center will focus on the maintenance of EVs, fuel cells and batteries, including the disposal of batteries. Orr said the center will be constructed south of the current campus.
