Two Alabama corrections officers arrested on contraband, drug charges
Two Alabama Department of Corrections security officers were arrested this week on contraband charges.
The ADOC’s Law Enforcement Services Division, with help from the K-9 Bureau, arrested Lindsey Crystal Poer and Henry Guice on Tuesday, according to a statement from prison spokesperson Kelly Betts.
Poer was a correctional security officer trainee at St. Clair Correctional Facility, said Betts. Poer resigned from the ADOC following her arrest and was charged with second-degree promoting prison contraband and unlawful possession of marijuana. Contraband recovered from the investigation included Oxycodone, Lorazepam, Diazpam, four packages wrapped in black electrical tape, and tobacco products.
She was transported to the St. Clair County Jail following her arrest.
Guice served as a correctional officer at Staton Correctional Facility and also resigned from the ADOC after being charged with trafficking a controlled substance, second-degree promoting prison contraband, and use of position for personal gain.
His arrest yielded approximately 145.8 gross grams of a “crystal like substance,” said Betts’ statement, and he was taken to the Elmore County Jail.
Both cases are still being investigated, and more charges may be added.
Prison Commissioner John Hamm said the arrests “are proof that the ADOC is committed to fighting contraband being introduced from outside and inside the state’s correctional facilities.”
“We will continue to enforce our zero-tolerance policy, even when it comes to rooting out bad apples from our own ranks.”
