Man indicted on murder charge in 2017 cold case killing of Chantaye Kitt in Mobile
A 22-year-old man has been indicted by a Mobile County grand jury in the murder of a 26-year-old woman nearly six years ago, police said Thursday.
The suspect, who was a minor when 26-year-old Chantaye Kitt was fatally shot on Sept. 29, 2017, is serving time in a state prison on unrelated conviction, said Cpl. Katrina Frazier of Mobile police.
“The indictment represents a significant milestone in the ongoing quest for justice for Chantaye Kitt and her family,” said Frazier. “The Mobile Police Department remains steadfast in its dedication to ensuring that individuals responsible for violent crimes are held accountable for their actions.”
The suspect’s name will not be publicly released because he was 16 at the time of the slaying, said Frazier.
Kitt was shot and killed outside a home in the 4000 block of Palmdale Drive.
