Wife of Poarch Indians CFO 4th to die in horrific Baldwin Beach Express crash
A fourth person has died as a result of a horrific accident on the Baldwin Beach Express last Sunday.
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians (PCI) announced that Jeanna Speegle, wife of PCI CFO Daryl “Tim” Speegle, who died shortly after the accident, had succumbed to her injuries. The Speegles were residents of Trussville and Tim Speegle had been the PCI CFO since 2015.
“Today, my heart is heavy as I received the news of the passing of Jeanna Speegle, the wife of our CFO Tim Speegle,” said PCI Tribal Chair & CEO Stephanie Bryan.
“It’s devastating to hear that innocent lives, like theirs, were cut short by that terrible auto accident this past Sunday on the Beach Express.”
According to Robertsdale police, shortly after 2:30 p.m. Sunday, a Chevrolet Trailblazer reportedly driven by 60-year-old David Arthur Colburn of Elberta struck the back of a black pickup truck, occupied by Christie Lowe and her daughter, Margaret.
The collision sent the pickup across the median and into oncoming northbound traffic where it struck a GMC Yukon driven by Tim Speegle, with Jeanna Speegle in the vehicle.
Lowe and her daughter were pronounced dead at the scene, while Tim and Jeanna Speegle were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital, where Tim Speegle died later that day. Jeanna Speegle was initially listed in critical condition.
The driver of the pickup was also injured, as were two children in the truck. Their conditions were not immediately available Thursday.
“Our continued thoughts and prayers go out to Speegle family, and the other victims of that terrible accident,” Bryan said in the statement. “We know there is power in prayer and ask the community to join us in remembering Tim and Jeanna.”
Colburn is currently charged with three counts of manslaughter in the deaths of Tim Speegle, Christie Lowe and Margaret Lowe, as well as DUI. In a bond hearing Monday, bond was set at $160,000 — $50,000 for each manslaughter charge and $10,000 for the DUI.
In the wake of Jeanna Speegle’s death, it is anticipated a fourth manslaughter charge will be levied against Colburn, who remained in the Baldwin County Jail as of Thursday afternoon.
