Texas man dies in apparent drowning on Orange Beach

A man visiting from Texas was pulled from the water off Orange Beach Tuesday evening and pronounced dead roughly an hour later, according to Baldwin County Coroner Brian Pierce.

Pierce said 47-year-old Hugh Pham of Murphy, Texas, was pulled from the water in the area of 27200 Perdido Beach Boulevard about 5:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Life-saving measures were initiated and Pham was transported to the Gulf Shores Freestanding Emergency Room, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.

Pierce said the death is being investigated as a drowning. Orange Beach police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Single Red flags were flying along Orange Beach Tuesday, which represent High Hazard with High Surf and/or Strong Currents. Beachgoers were advised to stay on the shore, according to Orange Beach Surf Rescue.
