Man killed, woman injured in shooting during argument in southwest Birmingham, police say
A man was killed and a woman was seriously hurt when they were shot during an argument Tuesday night in southwest Birmingham, police said.
West Precinct officers were dispatched to the 900 block of 25th Street Southwest around 8:50 p.m. following a ShotSpotter alert indicating that gunfire went off in the area, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.
Officers arrived on the scene to find a man lying unresponsive near a vehicle and suffering from a gunshot wound, Fitzgerald said.
Another victim, a woman, was also found suffering from a gunshot wound.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service personnel pronounced the man dead at the scene while the woman was transported to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, said Fitzgerald.
Officers remained on the scene believing a suspect was still in the area.
Police took the suspect in custody at a nearby house, Fitzgerald said. The suspect is set to be questioned at Birmingham police headquarters downtown.
The preliminary investigation into the shooting revealed the victims were involved in an argument with a group that they knew when shots were fired and they were struck, Fitzgerald said.
