Watch police lasso one of Godâs creatures for disrupting Vacation Bible School in Montgomery
Children attending Vacation Bible School at a Montgomery church got an up-close look at one of God’s creatures Tuesday.
Taylor Road Baptist Church Senior Pastor Daniel Atkins said he was walking around checking on the leaders and teachers when a woman ran up to him and alerted him to a cow outside the building.
Atkins went to investigate and found two Montgomery police officers and an animal control officer. They told him to get back inside because the cow was charging.
“Apparently it came through Eastchase and the large field between our church and the Shoppes at Eastchase,’’ Atkins said.
More than 200 children are attending the Vacation Bible School.
“Oh, my goodness, there were kids in the second story windows looking down,’’ Atkins said.
The cow was cornered between two buildings, but the officers were not having any luck wrangling it.
“The cow got agitated when it saw people walking by and it started pawing at the ground acting like it was going to charge the window,’’ Atkins said, “so we quickly diverted all traffic to another hallway.”
The officers on scene had no luck wrangling the cow. The Alabama Law Enforcement agency then sent a “cowboy” from it’s Agriculture and Rural Crime Unit to lasso the cow.
“We were not expecting to have that excitement today,’’ Atkins said.
Asked how he was going to top that for Wednesday, Atkins said, “On Monday we found a homeless man asleep outside our building wrapped in a sheet with no clothes right as school was starting and today was the cow. We’re all kind of anticipating what tomorrow will bring.”
