An elderly woman was killed in a Monday traffic crash in Shelby County.

Alabama State Troopers identified the fatality victim as Jacqueline V. Lowery. She was 82 and lived in Shelby.

The wreck happened at 3:54 p.m. on Shelby County 47, about four miles south of Columbiana.

Senior Trooper Justin O’Neal said Lowery was driving a Chevrolet Cruz that collided head-on with a Toyota 4Runner driven by 43-year-old Melissa Grier, also of Shelby.

O’Neal said Lowery was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Grier was taken to UAB Hospital. The seriousness of her injuries was not released.

Troopers are investigating.
