Titanic submersible, crew missing near sinking site

A small submarine that takes tourists to view the wreck of the Titanic is missing with its crew in the Atlanta Ocean near the site of the Titanic’s remains, multiple news reports say.

OceanGate Expeditions confirmed it owned the missing vessel and was working to get the crew back safely. Other companies and governments are working with the company.

The BBC first reported the missing craft today saying the “Boston Coastguard” told its reporter a search and rescue operation for the submersible was under way off the Newfoundland Coast. The New York Times has also reported on the search.

The Titanic sank in 1912 in 12,500 feet of water in history’s most famous shipwreck. More 1,500 of the 2,200 passengers and crew died in the disaster.
