Will mail run on Juneteenth, Monday, June 19th, 2023?
Juneteenth (Monday, June 19th, 2023) is a federal holiday. That means the postal workers won’t be making rounds that day.
The holiday commemorates the day when the last enslaved people in the U.S. learned they were free, two months after the end of Civil War and more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln delivered the Emancipation Proclamation. It was made a federal holiday by President Joe Biden in 2021.
As a postal holiday, mail won’t be delivered on Monday and post offices will be closed. Regular mail service will resume on Tuesday, June 20th.
Juneteenth is the fifth postal holiday of 2023. Upcoming postal holidays include Independence Day (July 4th), Labor Day (Sept. 4), Columbus Day (Oct. 9), Veterans Day (Nov. 11), Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 23) and Christmas Day (Dec. 25).
