Madison police officer found guilty of sexual misconduct

A Madison police officer was found guilty Thursday of sexual misconduct in a Madison County courtroom.

District Judge Donald Rizzardi sentenced Kevin O. Walter, 36, to one year in jail, suspended for two years on supervised probation with a $3,500 fine.

Walter was arrested in February following an investigation that began in November 2022. He was later placed on administrative leave.

According to court records, Walter was accused of having sex with a woman while she was intoxicated.

WHNT reported that, in a statement, the City of Madison said it “respects the court’s decision.”

“The City assures our community this is not a reflection of the Madison Police Department and the officers who uphold their public safety Oath of Honor,” the city stated.

“As the criminal investigation has been concluded, an administrative investigation is currently being conducted. The conclusion of this investigation will determine the appropriate action that will be taken to resolve the matter concerning this employee.”
