Search and rescue efforts are underway for the crew of a tugboat which reportedly went down Friday in the Alabama River near Mount Vernon.

Anna Peoples with Alabama Law Enforcement Agency told AL.com ALEA’s Marine Patrol was assisting the U.S. Coast Guard with the search and rescue. Peoples said the Coast Guard was the leading the effort.

Calls to the Coast Guard’s public information officer and Mobile office went unanswered.
