Storm damage survey planned for Eufaula area on Friday

Storm damage survey planned for Eufaula area on Friday

The National Weather Service will be heading to Barbour County on Friday to survey storm damage following Wednesday’s round of severe weather.

A possible tornado tore through the area near Eufaula on Wednesday, and damage to trees and some structures was later reported.

The area was under a tornado warning at the time.

The weather service will take a look at the damage and determine if it was caused by a tornado or straight-line winds.

If a tornado is confirmed, then meteorologists will give it a rating using the Enhanced Fujita Scale, which runs from EF-0 to EF-5.

The weather service said updates on what the survey team finds will be released later today.

The weather service also got reports of a tornado in the Abbeville area of Henry County on Wednesday. The area was under a tornado warning, damage was reported, and videos of an apparent tornado were put on social media following the storm.

A report to the weather service in Tallahassee, Fla., which covers that part of Alabama, said the Forestry Commission reported a tornado on the ground near the Graball area in Henry County.

So far the weather service hasn’t announced plans to survey that area, but forecasters have been inundated with constant severe weather over the past few days.
