XFL to hold rookie draft on Friday
The NFL has more than 2,800 players on its offseason rosters. About 900 players are active in the CFL and the USFL right now. And the XFL still has players on its rosters after its season ended last month.
But the XFL will give more players the opportunity to become pros on Friday, when the spring football league holds its rookie draft.
The draft will feature 80 selections – 10 per team.
Players who will be chosen were eligible for 2023 NFL Draft but are not under contract to another team.
The XFL Rookie Draft is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. CDT Friday, but the league doesn’t plan to announce the picks until Friday evening.
The Orlando Guardians have the first pick, followed by the Vegas Vipers, San Antonio Brahmas, St. Louis Battlehawks, Seattle Sea Dragons, Houston Roughnecks, D.C. Defenders and Arlington Renegades. The order will repeat in each round.
All players under contract in the XFL are allowed to leave the league to sign with an NFL team through Dec. 26.
