Woman kidnapped, assaulted escapes after being locked 3 days in north Alabama trailer

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man on charges of kidnapping and assault.

On Tuesday, investigators with the Criminal Investigation Division(CID) and deputies executed two arrest warrants at a residence in the 500 block of New Center Road near Hartselle, according to the sheriff’s office.

Christopher Lee Ward, 51, of Hartselle, was charged with first degree kidnapping and second degree assault. He is being held in the Morgan County Jail without bond.

Investigators say additional charges are possible.

According to court documents, a woman told investigators she was held for three days in May by Ward in a trailer, padlocking her inside when he would leave. During that time, he assaulted her multiple times, injuring her. The woman told investigators she was able to escape when he took her out in a vehicle.

She was later treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
