Top high school football recruit dies at 18

Arkansas football commitment Dion Stutts has died.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound defensive lineman from Memphis died Tuesday following a utility vehicle accident on his family’s farm in Batesville, Miss., according to TMZ.

Stutts was just 18.

Arkansas released the following statement on social media earlier today:

“We are heartbroken over the passing of Dion Stutts. He was a tremendous young man with a bright future ahead of him. We were as excited to add him to our program as he was to be a Razorback. Our thoughts and prayers are with his mother Shante and father Dino along with his entire family as they deal with this loss.”

Stutts, a 3-star recruit from Memphis University School, was listed as the No. 18 rising senior prospect in Tennessee, according to the 247 composite rankings. He committed to the Razorbacks on March 11. His other offers included Louisville, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Texas A&M and Tulane.

Fellow Arkansas commit Kavion Henderson of Leeds, Ala., reacted to the tragic news on social media.

“Me and you stayed talking,” he wrote. “You told me you wanted to be great. I told you we need to push each other. You will be forever missed. Praying for the family.”
