Baker 2024 WR Bryce Cain commits to Auburn over Ole Miss

Baker wide receiver Bryce Cain, a rapid riser in the Class of 2024, committed to Auburn on Tuesday over SEC rival Ole Miss.

The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Cain played his first year of varsity football in 2022 but colleges have taken quick notice of his speed.

He is also a standout baseball player for the Hornets.

“He’s a little raw still, but he can fly,” Baker coach Steve Normand said. “He has been running a legit 4.3 or 4.4 at camps. He’s improved at catching the ball. His ceiling is really, really high.”

Cain also has offers from Air Force, Cincinnati, Jacksonville State, Liberty, Louisville, Memphis, Northwestern, Troy, Tulane and Wake Forest among others. He caught 26 passes for 497 yards and 5 TDs a year ago.

“Last year was the first year he played football for us,” Normand said. “That’s good and bad. Some say it’s good because he hasn’t formed any bad habits just yet. It’s funny thinking back. I told our guys last summer that he could fly but that he was catching the ball with his face. But he’s worked his tail off this year to get better and better. He’s a sponge. He wants to learn.”

Normand said Cain should be a nice fit in the Hugh Freeze offense at Auburn.

“He just has so much room to grow,” he said. “I think with what coach Freeze does with that real fast slot-type guy it’s going to be a nice situation for him. He can become a premier wide receiver at that level.”

Cain is currently listed at No. 32 among in-state senior recruits in the 247 composite rankings. He is No 30 in the latest On3 rankings.

He is Auburn’s sixth commitment in the Class of 2024, joining quarterback Walker White, tight end Martavious Collins, running back J’Marion Burnette and defensive backs A’Mon Lane and Jayden Lewis. Cain is the second Baker rising senior to commit to an SEC school, joining quarterback Josh Flowers (Mississippi State).
