Birmingham’s Robins & Morton begins work on Florida healthcare project

Birmingham construction firm Robins & Morton has broken ground on a new offsite emergency department in Winter Haven, Fla.

AdventHealth West Florida Division’s19,800-square-foot, one-story facility will include 24 patient beds, a CT scanner, a radiology room, and a lab, as well as a helipad.

The project is scheduled for completion in May 2024.

Robins & Morton is the general contractor, while HuntonBrady is the architect.

Robins & Morton Operations Manager Todd Watson said the standalone facility is the first of its kind in Winter Haven.

Eventual plans for the site will include a 192-bed hospital to be built in phases, and a medical office building, on a 42-acre site.

David Ottati, AdventHealth West Florida Division president and CEO, said the project is “just the beginning” of a master plan to accommodate anticipated growth in the area. The new emergency room, for example, will also be located just 2.5 miles from the Legoland Florida Resort.

“AdventHealth is committed to expanding our footprint in Polk County, and we are thrilled to bring the highest quality of emergency care services to Winter Haven,” Ottati said.
