Montana Fouts claims another national award

Alabama softball has its first Honda Sport Award winner in program history as Montana Fouts was named the 2023 softball recipient Monday.

The 47-year-old award is awarded to the top women athletes across 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports. This is the 12th time an Alabama athlete won the award but the first for the softball program. Cross country runner Mercy Chelangat was the most recent winner back in 2021.

The 12 winners from each sport are in the running for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and Honda Cup that’ll be awarded June 26 on the CBS Sports Network. Alabama gymnast Kim Jacob claimed that honor in 2014.

Fouts, the ace pitcher for the past five seasons on the Alabama staff, joins a packed list of nominees for the Honda Cup. Also included: Iowa basketball star Caitlin Clark, Stanford golfer Rose Zhang and Florida gymnast Trinity Thomas.
