Four members of Class 7A state champion Vestavia Hills and four players from Class 6A winner Oxford were first-team selections on the 2023 Alabama Sports Writers Association All-State Baseball Team announced Saturday morning.

The Rebels’ first-team players were pitcher Jable Ramey, infielder Jackson Harris, outfielder Christopher Johnston and utility player John Paul Head. Harris was named Class 7A Player of the Year. Vestavia defeated 2022 champ Central-Phenix City in the best-of-three series.

Oxford placed pitcher Hayes Harrison, infielders Carter Johnson and Sam Robertson and utility man Peyton Watts on the team. Harrison was named the Pitcher and Player of the Year in Class 6A. The Yellow Jackets, who finished 39-6, swept Spanish Fort to win their title.

The ASWA names a player, pitcher, hitter and coach of the year in each of the seven classifications and the AISA. Mr. Baseball, the state’s top award, and the Super All-State team will be announced at the 51st annual ASWA convention Sunday night at Jacksonville State.

Three players and two coaches received a top honor for the second straight year. Central-Phenix City’s Jax Yoxtheimer was named Hitter of the Year for the second straight time in 7A, while Hartselle’s Coleman Mizell accomplished the same distinction in 6A. Last year’s AISA Hitter of the Year, Jaxon Milam of Glenwood, won that honor again and also was named AISA Player of the Year.

The two coaches honored again were Etowah’s Blake Bone in 4A and Ariton’s Bob Pickett in 2A. Pickett was the AISA Coach of the Year in 2022 at Macon-East.
